Soils and Fertilizers
The importance of using the correct soils and fertilizers are of big importance to our company. We are striving towards a greener future and using all bio-degradable products is a good start.
As previously stated we will be propagating:
First year:
As previously stated we will be propagating:
- Avocados using the grafting and air-layering technique (with root stock from seedling)
- Arum lilies using micro propagation
- Tomatoes using seeds and a hydroponic system
· Avocados:

· Medium :
1:1 - peat moss: perlite (good balance of moisture and drainage)

IBA (indool
botter suur) – Rooting hormone

Pot’s for
cuttings
- After about two weaks, check the progress of the cutting by tugging it gently. If you feel a slight resistance, you have a root system. After another 3 weeks, transplant cuttings into a bigger pot or in the ground.
Vegetative growth
· Environmental Conditions:
Trees
should be planted from September to November when soil temps have warmed and in an
area protected from wind and frost.
· Medium
Avocados
are shallow rooted trees with most of their feeder roots at the top ±20 centimeters of
soil. Because of this, they need to be planted in well aerated soil.
· Fertilizer and Fungicide
That is high in Nitrogen (Nitrogen promotes
shoot growth in an avocado tree). Calcium ( roots, good structure). Potassium for
growth and fruit bearing. Phosphorous for a healthy metabolism. Calcium (roots,
good structure). Magnesium ( photosynthesis). Iron and Manganese ( health)The roots of some types of plants, such as schefflera (Brassaia
actinophylla), are almost always infected with Pythium spp. despite
preventative use of fungicides. Fungicides remain an important method to control losses due to Phytophthora and
Pythium spp.
Flowering Stage
· Fertilizer
To improve the quality of fruit provide Zinc and Calcium
during the first 6 – 8 weeks of fruit growth.
First year:
Outdoor trees – Fertilize every month
Indoor trees –Fertilize every 3 weeks
Important Minerals:
Avocados need the right amounts of Nitrogen and Phosphorous for
healthy metabolism, Potassium and Zinc in the fruit, Calcium for good
structure, Magnesium for good photosynthesis capacity, and Boron, Iron, and
Manganese for good health
What minerals do avocado trees use? The first four
listed below are the most important minerals for avocado trees.
